My favorite species of octopus is the Giant Pacific Octopus and here's why. I used to live in Chattanooga, TN, and frequented the Aquarium there. I had always loved watching the octopus there but, on one visit, I got to see them feed her... and I was enthralled. I had no idea that they were so smart! I watched as they dropped in what was essentially a hamster ball with another smaller rubber ball into her tank. Then, she scooped it up into the center of her legs and it was gone. Moments later, the lid dropped down, then the rest of the ball, then the smaller rubber ball and she settled on a rock, supposedly to eat. And then, and this is silly, I swear we made eye contact. I just had a moment with this creature that I was just in awe at how wrong I had been. Ever since, the more octopus stuff I see, the more I am convinced of just how cool they are! So I love this site, of course.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see more affordable octopus stuff. I know that's kinda a difficult request but I have a feeling that list of a dozen or so octo-gifts on my wishlist that are over $100 are going to be staying on my wishlist :(
Thanks!

My favorite species is the blue ringed octopus, beautiful but deadly.
ReplyDeleteGoing to echo the more affordable stuff request. Also I'd love to see more household octopus stuff, dishes, pillows, linens, etc.
1) I'm guessing I'm following this blog because I'm able to comment, sorry I'm not a blog person and this is my first one that I'm following. And OMG this is the absolute best, I have always been interested in octopuses and I found this blog upon doing some research for a project and I have to say kudos for it because not only do you provide scientific info. but also the fun of octopuses, love it<3
ReplyDelete2)Even though I'm doing research on the common octopus mainly I would have to say the blue ringed octopus is my favorite. It's absolutely gorgeous with it's blue rings that draw people in only to reveal how dangerous and deadly it really is.
3) I would like to see anything octopus LOL. Because it's great to see how octopuses exist in various things. Particularly I would like octopus jewelry, especially rings I saw some on ebay and would like to buy one but I'm unsure of how secure those sellers are plus the goods ones are a little bit pricey.
Toys too, I'm going to see if I can find the cutest stuffed octopus animal.
Okay sorry for being so lengthy I just wanted to let you know how awesome I think this blog is:)
my email is cutenicechick21@verizon.net in case I win, fingers crossed;)
the giant pacific, because the bigger the more awesome (and the more huggable ;)).
ReplyDeleteand I'd like more... octopus everything. literally, I collect all octopus gadgets within my reach - although maybe toys and jewelery are the most popular with me, but that's more of a coincidence than anything else. :)
love the ornament, by the way - seen it on ebay before and was really tempted. ;)
The Mimic Octopus is my favorite species; I love that sometimes even we humans can't figure out what they're supposed to be disguised as. Puts us in our place, eh?
ReplyDeleteI always like to see anatomically correct octopus items that include, for example, the siphon, beak, and mantle, etc.
Thanks,
Emily

My favorite species of octopus is the Atlantic Pygmy Octopus, because they're tiny, cute, & *dangerous*!
ReplyDeleteI too would like to see more affordable octopus stuff, but hats & socks & blankets are where I'd like to see the octopuses!
Fave species would have to be the Blue Ringed octopus. cute, pretty, deadly *and* Aussie. :P
ReplyDeleteDefinitely echo the affordable call, but what I'd like to see is more variety in Octo styles. So much stuff on Etsy (for example) is using the same Octo mould and it gets a bit boring!!!
Octopus on more clothing would be great! As would be more octopus candelabras! Those things rock :)
ReplyDeleteI actually have 2 faves, the Giant Pacific Octopus and the Coconut Shell Octopus. They are beautiful creatures and so so intelligent! I love watching videos of all types. I always enjoy octopus wall hangings and jewelry. crystal.hickey@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteThanks for the wonderful blog! I'm glad there are other octopus lovers out there like me. They are so adaptable and beautiful.
Giant Pacific Octopus is magnificent, it's precocious, and has the most character.
ReplyDeleteAs far as octo-stuff, whatever you find. To try and direct your focus would be a mistake. We love the surprises and unique items.
Love Everything Octopus!

Making a choice on a favorite would be hard... but probably it would come down to the giant pacific and the dumbo octopuses! I love them both because you just can't take your eyes off of them! The giant pacific is well... giant and just takes command of his surrounding and the dumbo is just too darn cute for words! I just want to love him and call him squishy and make him mine! In the end I did make the giant pacific mine. He just made for a better chest piece – so I immortalized him in ink ;) (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=34157593&l=ee3d1dba4d&id=39200623)!
ReplyDeleteAs far as the site - love it - I think anything that is budget conscience would be a must, sometimes silver jewelry can be so expensive and there are great inexpensive acrylic alternatives (http://www.etsy.com/shop/CABfayre?ref=seller_info) for people who can’t always splurge.
